The presence of aromatic compounds in waste gases may require a suitable abatement technique to prevent odour complaints and/or to meet the local emission limits.
For small gas flows, aromatic compounds can be removed with an activated carbon-based dry scrubber.
For voluminous air flows, we have completed projects based on the biofilter technique, with or without the presence of a dry scrubber as a peak shaver for fluctuating pollutant concentrations. To optimise the biodegradation of some volatiles such as styrene, an ozone-based pre-oxidation can help to minimise the required bioreactor volume.
