Aromatic compounds
What are aromatic compounds?
Aromatic compounds are organic compounds with a stable, planar, cyclic structure and a conjugated π-electron system. According to Hückel’s rule, this structure gives them a high degree of chemical stability. Common examples include benzene, naphthalene, and toluene, which are widely used in industries such as plastics, pharmaceuticals, and dye manufacturing.
When present in waste gas streams, aromatic compounds may require an appropriate abatement technique to prevent odour nuisance and/or to comply with local emission limits.
