Challenge

• The roof of 2 sludge thickeners faced corrosion due to high H2S-concentrations (> 100 ppmv) in the headspace of the tank.
• Upon ventilation of the sludge thickeners, a suited H2S abatement technique
• (> 95% removal efficiency) is needed to prevent odour complaints.

Result

• A fan and lavafilter was installed on each of the sludge thickeners.
• The lava stones are irrigated with a small amount of filtered effluent water.
• After a short start-up period, optimal H2S removal efficiencies were obtained.
