Trevi delivered a water reuse and minimal liquid discharge solution for a producer of cathode material for Li-ion batteries in Poland. Heavy metal wastewater is turned into demineralised water with a capacity of 2 x 10 m³/h.
The challenge: heavy metal wastewater and ppb-level process water
The production of cathode material generates wastewater loaded with heavy metals. The process water specifications were very strict, with ion concentrations required at parts per billion (ppb) level.
Our solution: physicochemical treatment, membranes and evaporation
- Physicochemical wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) for bulk removal of nickel, manganese and cobalt
- Containerised plant with ultrafiltration, double pass reverse osmosis (RO) and electrodeionisation to remove lithium and remaining ions
- Evaporation with mechanical vapour recompression to reduce the RO concentrate volume
The result: demineralised water and minimal liquid discharge
The installation produces demineralised water for reuse at a capacity of 2 x 10 m³/h. Evaporation reduces the RO concentrate volume, keeping liquid discharge to a minimum.
